Especially since the filmmakers knew going into it that this character was going to be a major part of the second movie, why didn’t they plan ahead for that? If they were going to retcon his entrance anyway, why even include it? It makes it look like they didn’t know what was going to happen next, which makes the sequel seem forced. This isn’t a terribly uncommon thing in the industry, but it does make me feel bad for Jordan Burtchett. Most articles think the most likely reason for the recast was that Jordan Fisher had more resume credits than Jordan Burtchett. I read a few articles trying to figure out why the recast happened, but there is no official reason released that I found. ![]() However, in the second movie, he mails a letter to Lara Jean, which is the catalyst of the story, and then they run into each other at Belleview. The first movie ends with John Ambrose showing up at Lara Jean’s door with flowers and the letter. Not only did they recast him though, they changed his entire entrance to the movie.
